Asheville
Saturday was a day off from the studio and Penland and so we took the opportunity to visit Asheville. It's a great little city, a lot like Savannah but with more hills! Started with a swim & Sauna at the YMCA which was so very good after being in the mountains with the altitude playing havoc with my limbs (getting old!). Sushi for lunch....Boris has been dreaming about it since his SNAG trip here in May.
After lunch we undertook a whistlestop tour of the local galleries/museum including the very cool contemporary jewellery gallery MORA. I have included my favourite piece from the current display below, that of Anna Johnson who happens to work in the gallery and was there for a chat.
Blue Spiral Gallery represents a wide selection of makers from all media and is also a beautiful space. The current exhibition in Gallery 1 is entitled Line and just happens to include a piece by our studio coordinator, Ian Henderson. I have also discovered a new metal artist, Zack Noble who makes oversized tools of unknown function....well maybe he knows the function!
